Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe Responds To JK Rowling’s Anti-Trans Tweets: ‘Transgender Women Are Women’
Just a few days ago, Harry Potter author JK Rowling was at the end of extreme criticism for what Netizens called ‘anti-trans- tweets. In her tweet about menstruation, Rowling mocked a headline about ‘people who menstruate’, and her tweet suggested that only women menstruate. She faced backlash from Netizens who accused her of transphobia. Now, Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe spoke up and responded to her tweets.  His response and his support to the trans community is winning hearts on social media and the star is trending on Twitter.

Daniel Radcliffe who isn’t on social media, penned a heartfelt note responding to Rowling’s comments in a blog post for The Trevor Project. He wrote, "Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo (Rowling) or I." He further wrote about discrimination of transgender and binary youth due to their gender identity. “It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm,” he wrote.

His response was a winner, and soon Daniel Radcliffe was trending on Twitter. People praised him for speaking out and while one wrote, “Harry Potter himself affirms, “Transgender women are women.” 1 million points to Gryffindor! Meanwhile, JK Rowling’s tweet that courted controversy read, “People who menstruate.’ I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?" Her further tweets only angered Netizens more. “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth,” she wrote.
